Event Time:

Evaluating the accuracy of light and color across instrument panels is a challenge compounded by several factors. The number of indicators, the varying location of symbols, and the range of colors on a backlit display prove complex for automated inspection systems and human inspectors alike.

Using light measurement software, the most common method for achieving complete panel characterization has been to draw static points-of-interest (POI) windows around each of the illuminated symbols within a captured image to define areas for measurement. These areas are measured independently for light and color accuracy, and then compared for cross-symbol uniformity. However, the setup process for this static POI measurement method is increasingly time-consuming based on the number of symbols and symbol types on a panel. In addition, if the panel under test shifts during measurement, or changes (such as a new batch of panels on a production line), symbols may fall out of the boundaries of the static POI measurement windows defined in the software. The challenge calls for a more adaptive solution.

In this webinar from Radiant Vision Systems, Product Manager Shannon Roberts introduces and demonstrates Auto-POI (Automatic Points of Interest) - the latest tool in Radiant Vision Systems software that performs light and color measurement of multi-point inspection areas using an imaging colorimeter. Unlike static POI, Auto-POI locates symbols dynamically using programmed luminance (Lv) and color values (CIE x,y coordinates), snapping to symbols that fall within defined tolerances and evaluating all like-symbols in a single measurement. Attendees will learn how Auto-POI technology enables truly automated evaluation across entire instrument clusters, greatly improving the efficiency of panel test and measurement applications, with the speed and adaptability needed for implementation on the production line or in final assembly test.

Key Take-Aways

  • Learn about the new Auto-POI tool in Radiant Vision Systems' light and color measurement software - the fastest, most intuitive method for evaluating complex instrument clusters
  • Learn how to apply points of interest (POI) within light measurement software to measure all illuminated characters on a display or instrument panel at once
  • Watch a demonstration of Auto-POI as it evaluates an automotive cluster, using programmed luminance and color thresholds to evaluate symbol sets for cross-symbol uniformity and harmonization
  • See how Auto-POI automatically creates accurate POIs even when displays are rotated or moved
