Near-infrared (NIR) light sources enable a number of sensing applications in and around the vehicle, which have become more important as we enter the autonomous age. To improve safety, new regulations enforce the integration of sensing systems that monitor driver attention and behavior behind the wheel. Called driver monitoring systems (DMS) these systems are already implemented in many new automobiles, with NIR LEDs and lasers used to unobtrusively sense driver gaze, alertness, position, and activity in all lighting conditions. Join our presentation online to learn about DMS trends, regulations, and the need for high-performance NIR light sources to ensure optimal function of these critical systems.
